Alternatives For Pocket Knives

Pocket knives date back to the Iron Age, which is a really long time ago. Dating back to 600-500 BC a pocket knife was discovered in Austria, and it had a bone handle. So, it is safe to assume that pocket knives have had their use for a long time.

The question is if we can use something other than a pocket knife? Because what if we can’t find a good cheap pocket knife or maybe even lose it. So, we need to be prepared.

Let’s talk about that, then…

We have Pen Knives

There is quite a confusion between handmade pocket knives and pen knives. Let’s be clear, these two are quite different from one anotherThe difference: pen knives have multiple tools that are incorporated into it. Pen knives for sale are usually referred to ”Swiss Army Knives”, and these have multiple and equal functions.  Whereas a pocket knife’s sole purpose is cutting, and all other functions are secondary for a cheap pocket knife.

What does a penknife have?

Along with a cutting blade, a pen knife for sale may also include a fork, nail file, tweezers, scissors, screwdriver, ballpoint pen and many other functional tools. The modern-day pen knives may even include a USB memory stick or a charging cable. Some even have flashlights.

So the alternative?

Pen knives are certainly a good alternative for a pocket knife, because other than cutting you may also sit down and file your nails a bit. A penknife reduces the number of tools you have to carry; hence, your burden is lessened. Moreover, wanting to do a different task in a short time, then a penknife helps in reducing the time wastage as well.

BUT…

Yes, there is a “but” involvedDue to the complexity of the tool, the blade of a penknife is much harder to replace than that of a pocket knife. If you think your blade is going to wear out quicker than it should, then you need to consider the possibility of damage that may occur during your task. However, that does not mean you have to let go of the idea of a penknife. It’s still quite plausible.

Have a specific task for which you need an Alternative?

There are tools in the market that are designed for a specific task. Moreover, they are CHEAPER! Hence, it’s worth considering other options if you only have one or two specific tasks to perform. But keep in mind, if you need more versatility, then you should choose a pocket knife!

Other Alternatives?

Let’s go with a BOX CUTTER!!

We have all been using belt cutter knife, right? Box cutter is a knife designed specifically for opening packages and boxes. The blade of a box cutter is segmented, it has sections that can be snapped off when the blades have worn down; moreover, when these blades are snapped off, it gets a new cutting edge!

Next on to the Wrap Cutters…

A hooked, small blade along with a plastic liner… the purpose of it is to protect the contents in the package, and any other surface the blade may come in contact with. Just under the hook, you’ll find a small section that leaves the cutting edge exposed. This helps in cutting through plastic wraps, adhesives or any other similar material.
